This Dungeon Grew Mushrooms – Chapter 412

Hunger

In the long passage of time, Qisi had always lived inside that transparent cage.

If it reached out a limb, it would touch the smooth, hard boundary. That was the entirety of the world as it knew it.

Until one day, the jar shattered from sudden tremors. The nutrient fluid that had sustained it drained away completely. It had no choice but to stretch its limbs outward.

So… what it had touched before wasn’t the edge of the world!

The outside world was bigger, but… so hungry!

Qisi licked the nutrient fluid on the ground clean, but for some reason the spout that used to produce more had dried up.

So hungry so hungry so hungry so hungry!

It wanted to go back inside the jar. Outside was too hungry!

In its hunger, Qisi ate one of its own legs, only to feel even hungrier.

It felt itself growing weaker.

Another tremor. Something fell beside it, nearly hitting it.

Then more things began to fall.

Qisi desperately dodged. After leaping away from a collapsing boulder, a falling pillar pierced its body. Soon a second followed.

It was skewered between two pillars, unable to move.

Purple blood pooled on the ground. Qisi felt its consciousness fading.

In its haze, it sensed something gnawing at its body, something it had never seen before, not hard and immobile, but moving like itself.

It was eating Qisi. The next second, claws pierced the unknown creature. Qisi frantically stuffed it into its stomach!

After digesting and regaining some clarity, Qisi finally noticed a new, unknown world revealed beyond the broken, collapsed gate.

Too bad it couldn’t move now. No matter. Food would come from outside, run to its mouth, let it hunt.

Time passed. Unknown how long. Full once more, it created its first flesh mound. The mound grew into a six-claw!

The six-claw caught more food. Then more six-claws, eye bugs, jumping bugs… evil eyes…

It devoured everything it sensed. It never wanted to feel hunger again.

Qisi continued gorging, but soon it realized food nearby was growing scarce.

It felt fear. It wanted to escape!

The force trapping it weakened, but not enough yet. It needed to be weaker still.

Otherwise only its heart would escape and become someone else’s food.

It hated being food.

Fortunately, new light appeared.

A strange, mysteriously connected area.

There, Qisi first knew warmth, first saw lava and pools.

And… endless food!

Though so much food, Qisi refused to waste any. It cherished every bite. Wherever it went, it devoured everything edible!

Then it met the nightmare.

Those soft, white, tender, easily digestible mushrooms!

Those things that should have been its food instead killed and dragged away its bugs.

The first time Qisi saw through an eye bug the fungal mat decomposing a six-claw, it felt rage.

It was the predator!

It ate others!

It would devour these mushrooms completely, leave nothing!

It…

It fled…

Abandoning everything, even breaking off another leg!

On the ice plain, it felt hunger’s terror once more.

But unlike last time, it wasn’t trapped. A free body let it actively seek food.

Gnawing mud and bark, it found the Luo River.

Amazingly, though its first time in water, it felt as if it belonged there.

And so much food in the water!

Second maturation, familiar now. It ate aquatic monsters, hunted two-legged prey on the shore.

After another feast, it met the mushrooms again… the mushrooms had come out too.

But no matter. It was different now. Escaped the cage. Just a little more time…

A bat that came out of nowhere attacked for no reason, muttering “purple is rare,” chasing it from east to west.

Only by splitting its body again did Qisi barely survive.

Outside… so scary…

After that, Qisi hid its “heart” deeper, carefully maturing again while seeking safer places.

At the western end of the Luo River, it discovered the sea!

More food there. It would go there!

But unknown dangers too. It needed more power.

It decided: before leaving, one last great feast!

Target… naturally the two-legged idiots by the river!

Several massive toothed tentacles with mouth-like orifices burst through the ice, soaring skyward!

Amid unlucky victims’ screams, blood rained down.

At the same time, the ice shattered constantly. Some fell in and never resurfaced.

Tribal warriors tried attacking the tentacles. Under concentrated assault, they severed one, but it changed nothing.

Toothed beasts weren’t exactly a new variant for Qisi; previously their eggs had always died halfway. Only now did Qisi realize it was lack of water.

Toothed beasts were similar tier to evil eyes, lacking special skills like petrification or magic shields; only sheer size and powerful vitality!

These two-legged prey were strong when gathered, but that was on land. In water…

The toothed beast tentacles in the water didn’t attack anyone. They simply smashed the ice, breaking it apart.

As intact ice grew less, aside from a few fliers or truly agile ones, most demons who rushed onto the ice fell in.

Then the feast began.

Wow, brutal.

Through the invisible scout Puchi’s vision, the battle on the frozen river was crystal clear; it could no longer be called a battle.

The moment it arrived, it had sensed a massive presence below. So it was Qisi’s new unit!

This insatiable guy was trying to steal prey that should be his while he wasn’t looking!

Unforgivable!

Though he had misjudged the tribal alliance’s target, Lin Jun hadn’t ordered Little Pig’s fortress army to turn back.

Since the army had marched this far, returning empty-handed was pointless. Even if just to kick Qisi a few times and train the troops, it was worth it.

But now it seemed these trash tribal allies were pure feed!

No one understood Qisi’s danger better than Lin Jun. Letting it rampage near his home base would be trouble later.

“Little Pig, full speed!”

Receiving Lin Jun’s direct order, Louisa on the Puchi war chariot turned and relayed through the network: “All units! Advance at maximum speed!”

Across the snow plain, the army’s passage raised a storm of snow.

“Oh! I know these gray mushrooms; they’re edible.” Facing adventurers who came to pick his mushrooms, Lin Jun silently sprouted a pale blue mushroom among the gray ones. After a hearty meal, the adventurers all collapsed, poisoned and giggling on the ground. Luckily, another team rescued these unlucky fellows before they became monster chow. “Captain, what happened to them?” “Sigh, they dared to eat mushrooms here without offering sacrifices first. Outsiders are just clueless.” — Lin Jun, who was summoned as a hero by someone unknown but reincarnated as a mushroom, found himself trapped deep in the dungeon, surrounded by monsters. To one day see the sun again, Lin Jun used his hero cheat—decomposing corpses to plunder skills—to carve out a mushroom garden in the dungeon, planning to slowly counter-invade the surface…
